About Jazz Queensland
Jazz Queensland is a peak, non-profit incorporated association, administered by the Queensland Government through its Office of Fair Trading. Jazz Queensland was originally the Jazz Co-ordination Program of Queensland est 2020 and officially became an association in 2020. Jazz Queensland events provide a forum for innovation and also a platform for presenting national and international artists. At the same time, engage our vast community of artists, audiences, venues, businesses, promotors, media and educators.

What We Do
The Valley Jazz Festival
Valley Jazz Festival 2020 (VJF) - From Thursday 12th to Sunday 15th May 2020, this 4 day festival will animate over 200 local, regional and national artists, across more than 16 live music venues, attracting 7,000 visitors to Australia’s only live music precinct Fortitude Valley.

Jazz Qld Live Performance Initiative
The Jazz Qld Live Performance Initiative (LPI) was launched on the 16th of May 2020 at the Brisbane Powerhouse as part of the Valley Jazz Festival. This innovative sector stimulus project curates a concert series of high quality live music programs, while also cultivating sector alliances throughpartnerships with Brisbane’s key live music venues including the Brisbane Powerhouse the Judith Wright Centre of Performing Arts, Jazzworx Music Institute and the BCC Valley Mall Entertainment Program.
Jazz Singers Jam Night
Ingrid James Producer of the jam night, prepares a program for each month, advises singers leading up to the event, books the musicians, liaises with the venue and Jazz Queensland. This has been a voluntary position for 6 years.
This event features a high profile 3 piece jazz trio who back a line up of 10 jazz vocalists each month. It is a self-funded activity produced by Ingrid James and supported by Jazz Queensland, singers and the audience.
Jazz Qld Artists Opportunities.
This project will provide an online facility via the JQ website where administrators can announce a range of performance opportunities, competitions and awards, available as part of JQ presentations and also announce general callouts for artists from presenters and venues in Queensland.
Administrators can log in and review applications, listen to music samples and rate applications.
This project aims to;
• increase performance opportunities by providing connectivity between artists and employer
• Increase accessibility for live music presenters, to the jazz and improvised music sector‘s artists
• Build sustainable infrastructure by providing an automated recruitment facility that eliminates costs related to physical submissions and manual data entry.

National Jazz Sector Development
Jazz Queensland is a founding member of the National Jazz Alliance that was formed in 2020 to develop a unified voice and strategy for jazz and improvised music in Australia.
Jazz Qld have provided vital input to this strategy via close consultation in developing a national plan. Further Jazz Qld also filled a role on the Jazz Australia website development steering committee, as part of the selection process for both the consultant and the website developer tender processes and also developing the proposed new national hub’s specifications and requirements document.
The objectives for the Qld Jazz sector are to improve national representation, optimise the Qld sector communications and information networks and international market development for Qld artists.
Brisbane Festival in Association with Jazz Queensland present the Jazz on Sunday Series
The programs present interstate as well as showcase local acts that will provide performance opportunities for emerging and established artists, vital forums for new work, and engage a range of Brisbane’s jazz consumers on a large scale.
Approximately 1,300 patrons hear 9 jazz bands over the 3 events, creating employment opportunities and exposure for over 45 musicians.

•To foster the presentation of high quality performances of jazz including performers engaged with the development of original material and indigenous based jazz styles and to encourage the development of audience participation and support for such performances.
•To seek and expand performance opportunities for jazz artists by way of further investigation and extension of venues, clubs and festivals.
•To encourage and assist young people and women in jazz by presenting appropriate role models. To be free of gender bias.
•To maintain and make available an information base about jazz act ivies and musicians in Queensland.
•To promote, publicise and educate about jazz through use of media and direct presentation. To increase networks.
•To assist in the application of funding of commissions for jazz musicians,composers and other organisations.
•To widen the base of organsational and financial support of jazz by local, state and federal governing bodies, other persons and orgnanisations by seeking sponsorship at every level.
•To facilitate the work of people who are willing to develop organisational structures to support jazz performance composition, education and documentation.
•To develop opportunities and co-operate with with other state organisations and with the National Jazz organisations in facilitating national and international jazz programming.
